An Attitude of Gratitude
How often do you say “thank you” each day? Or how often does somebody say it to you? Showing appreciation and gratitude is said to be one of the most powerful things we can do from one human to another. It may be as simple as thanking a person who held a door open for you or paying the service charge in a restaurant where you had a fantastic meal.
How often do you hear “thank you” each day? Being on the receiving end of a thank you is also a great feeling. I personally love it because of the affirmation that I have done a good job which has been appreciated; and this applies to both my professional and personal life.
As a business owner or manager you can guarantee that if your team feel appreciated, and are thanked and rewarded for their efforts and achievements, the company will benefit as well. A culture of gratitude plays a crucial role in the workplace and predicts higher job satisfaction and staff retention. Practicing gratitude at work makes the employees feel more grateful about their job in general and employees who practice gratitude at work have a stronger sense of community and greater team unity. Grateful employees tend to focus more on the things they appreciate at work, rather than those that annoy them. Expressing gratitude doesn’t only affect the internal relationships between colleagues and management. They can also improve the relationship between the business and its customers or strengthen the trust between partners.
